An amateur race team based in the Polish capital’s main University, has joined up with Gtechniq Poland, to improve the aerodynamics of their student-led race cars.

Students in the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, design and build innovative vehicles each year to compete internationally in the Shell Eco-marathon.

From this year on the team are following in the footsteps of Sahara Force India’s Formula One Team, using Gtechniq C0 Aerocoat to enhance aerodynamic performance of the car. C0 is used by race teams to reduce the amount of debris, in particular rubber, which can sick to a car during racing, which in turn can affect a cars performance on the track.

Pawel Radziszewski, from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at Warsaw University, said: “Vehicles created by our team are carefully designed, thoroughly tested, and each aspect is of paramount importance. We were keen on reducing the adhesion of dirt to the surface of the vehicle while driving. To this end, we chose Gtechniq C0 to best fulfill this role and further enriched surface with intense shine.”

Michal Zaborowski, managing director of Gtechniq Poland, said: “Gtechniq C0 has been produced specifically for Formula One race teams to reduce the adhesion of dirt and debris to the wings cars, improving air flow and aerodynamic efficiency. I am glad that we can support and help the team at the University of Warsaw giving them access to our products and experience to help with the cars performance in the marathon.”

The Shell Eco-marathon challenges student teams from around the world to design, build and test ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. With annual events first in the Americas, then Europe and Asia, the winners are the teams that go the furthest using the least amount of energy. The events spark debate about the future of mobility and inspire young engineers to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency.
